The high mage Elton so obsessed over creating more and more powerful eyeglasses that he unwittingly unleashed a horrible plague of spiders into his bathroom that eventually devoured him as he sat upon his throne. Then, their magical lust for brains satiated, they organized themselves into pairs of eyeglasses. Each set is now said to contain a tiny portion of the brains that created them.
